Office of Public Affairs (OPA)
The Office of Public Affairs-Indian Affairs supports the Office of the Assistant Secretary-Indian Affairs, the Bureau of Indian Affairs and the Bureau of Indian Education by providing information on secretarial decisions and actions to news media and other entities interested in Indian Affairs via news releases, media relations, and the Indian Affairs website. It is the primary contact within Indian Affairs for journalists, writers, researchers and the public seeking general information about IA bureaus, offices, programs and activities; American Indians and Alaska Natives; federally recognized tribes; federal Indian laws and policies; and the history of federal-tribal relations as they relate to Indian Affairs.
Please contact the tribes directly for information on their individual histories, languages, cultural traditions, religious beliefs or practices, or political, business, or governmental affairs. Such information is best provided by the tribes themselves, and they may make it accessible to the public via their websites or their own public information offices.
