Red Lake Agency
The Red Lake tribe entered into a self-governance compact on January 1, 1997. On that date all forestry operations were transferred to the tribe. Through negotiations the Bureau retained one residual position at Red Lake to oversee the governments trust responsibility. Because forestry has one of the largest trust responsibilities on the reservation the retained position was a forester.-
